The stage is set for a thrilling season of Singapore football as the Singapore Cup 2025/26 makes its much-anticipated return, culminating in a January 10 final at the newly re-turfed Jalan Besar Stadium. The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has confirmed that this year’s edition will feature a streamlined format and a stronger emphasis on competitive integrity, aligning with Asian Football Confederation (AFC) standards.
Revamped Stadium, Renewed Excitement
After months of redevelopment, Jalan Besar Stadium is ready to reopen as the home of the Singapore Cup final. The fresh turf, upgraded facilities, and improved fan experience mark a new chapter for one of Singapore’s most historic football venues.
The decision to bring the final back to Jalan Besar is symbolic. Known as the birthplace of Singapore football, the stadium now combines its heritage with modern features designed for faster play and better broadcast quality. Fans can expect a renewed matchday experience in the heart of the city.
Seven Teams, One Trophy
This year’s tournament will see seven Singapore Premier League (SPL) clubs competing for domestic glory, as the Young Lions sit out to prepare for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
Lion City Sailors and BG Tampines Rovers, last season’s finalists, have been seeded directly into the semi-finals based on their league standings. The remaining five teams — Albirex Niigata (S), Geylang International, Balestier Khalsa, Hougang United, and Tanjong Pagar United — will compete in a single round-robin group stage from November 1 to December 7, 2025.
Each club will play four matches, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals. The two-leg semi-finals are scheduled for December 14 and December 20, leading to the grand final at Jalan Besar on January 10, 2026.
Aligning with AFC Regulations
The updated format ensures compliance with AFC Entry Regulations, which require each top-tier club to play a minimum of 24 domestic matches per season. Both the Sailors and Tampines will meet this requirement through 21 league fixtures, two semi-final matches, and the Community Shield, while the other clubs will surpass the threshold through their league and cup games.
Earlier plans to include an invited foreign team were shelved due to scheduling constraints, ensuring a tighter, more competitive local format that prioritizes player welfare and fixture balance.

More Than Just a Cup
The Singapore Cup has long been more than a domestic competition. It serves as a stage for rising stars, tactical showdowns, and the pride of local clubs fighting for silverware. With Jalan Besar’s new surface and renewed energy, the 2025/26 edition aims to reinvigorate fan enthusiasm and reaffirm the stadium’s status as the spiritual home of Singapore football.
