How to wash your hands properly

Fitness In Singapore - How to wash your hands properly

Washing hands is THE NORM. It helps reduce the spread of germs, disease, and illness along the lines of the flu or the coronavirus as well. Many think they are washing their hands properly, but you would be surprised how you might have not been washing your hands properly at all. So here’s a quick guide on how to properly wash your hands. Pass this on!

  • Wet hands first with clean water.
  • Add some soap.
  • Rub your hands together to create a lather, do the back of your hands, between your fingers and IMPORTANTLY under your nails as bacteria like E. coli can hide there.
  • You must wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.
  • Rinse your hands with clean water.
  • Dry your hands on a clean towel. If you have a dry towel at home, you must not use it more than three times.

How often should you wash your hands?

Well, that is a good question, but the answer is no different than usual, which is:

  • When you come home after being out.
  • When you arrive at the office or home if you used public transport.
  • Always before, during and after touching food for cooking or consumption.
  • Before and after interacting with someone who is sick… or even a healthy person (like after shaking hands with people).
  • After using the bathroom.
  • After sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose.
  • After changing diapers
  • Before and after bandaging wounds.
  • After playing or handling any animals.
  • After touching any type of garbage or recycling bin.

Does it seem much you think? Well if we list it like that, it sure sounds like a lot but you probably have been doing it all subconsciously!
